To the average gamesplayer, Macross 2036 is a decent enough
shoot ‘em up. But fans of the Macross series will get much more out of it.
The game features extensive anime sequences between levels, with character
design by Haruhiko Mikimoto, the man behind the original TV series. These
scenes are quite smart, although sometimes heavy in Japanese dialogue, but
they add an extra layer to the game. The soundtrack is also excellent, being
an almost perfect reproduction of much of the original music (anyone who has
bought vids Clash of the Bionoids/Do you remember Love? will recognize several
key tunes) so it doubles as an anime soundtrack. Two for the price of one!
GRAPHICS: Some nice in game touches like battles going on
in the background and reflections of icy pillars that go scrolling past.
SOUND: Excellent soundtrack, nice effects and great voice
acting (Japanese).
