NEC AVENUE/CAPCOM
27 MARCH 1992
Capcom’s horizontally scrolling blaster has you take control of a warrior with a Space Harrier style jet-gun thing, flying around strange and ruined landscapes. The impressive graphics are the most striking thing about this, even beating the excellent Megadrive conversion, despite a lack of parallax scrolling. Control can be a little awkward without a 3 button pad (6 button pads don’t work) but it’s something you get used to, although this does make the gameplay suffer. If you liked Side Arms you won’t go far wrong, and if you didn’t, then this shows how it should have been done.
GRAPHICS: Some glorious backdrops and very original bosses. Not much clash, considering.
SOUND: The tunes in Forgotten Worlds are quite unique in style, and the arrangements are very good. You also get a choice of original arcade speech (poor) and re-recorded speech (clear).
